Harley Davidson Museum

“We need a show-stopping exhibition to spotlight our newly renovated Experience Gallery.”

Pillar Experiences

  • Concept

The Experience Gallery is the final exhibition in the Harley Davidson Museum. It features a series of 4 interactive pillars.

As lead engineer for the project, I developed the interactive content in TouchDesigner. Animated content is synced to the massive video wall display, and each screen is touch-enabled.

  • Production

I worked closely with a team of designers to create dynamic, interactive content that is tailored to a pillar-specific theme.

Content blocks flow from the central display, and when triggered by touch, expand to show themed audio-visual content. Users can navigate and control content with embedded UI elements.

  • Deployment

I worked onsite to 5 days to facilitate integration of all aspects of the experience. I worked closely with the AV team to ensure user presence detection and dynamic audio control worked properly.

The experience runs daily, and has for over 2 years. The next time you’re in Milwaukee, make sure to check it out!

Content Management Sytem

  • Central video wall

The experience is driven by a custom CMS I designed and engineered. Users can add, edit, or combine video content through an elegant interface.

The central video wall content consists of up to 4 editable slots for high resolution videos.

  • Pillar content

Users can target each pillar, adding or editing content including videos, interface titles, descriptive text, and custom generated QR codes.

Built in Javascript and HTML, the CMS provides an at-a-glance overview of all content in the experience.

  • Media validation

I designed a custom middleware layer for the CMS, using Ffprobe in NodeJS to validate media. This ensures only valid media formats and codecs are entered into the playback system.

Embedded tool tips and an easy to access user guide help onboard new users.
